Audiovisual Technologies

Traditional audio technology: cassette recorder -Teachers can record individual students reading. Then teachers can play back the cassette to better identify if students struggle with particular areas of pronunciation or words. Teachers can also identify whether students are reading at a slower or advanced pace.
Emerging audio technology: Cd's -Teachers can download a program that is relevant to a lesson, and save to a CD-Rom. The CD can then be listened to by students. Instead of rewinding an entire cassette, Cd's allow for a segment to be played at a quicker speed.
Traditional visual technology: overhead projector -Transparencies of the alphabet can be projected for small children learning the alphabet. Teachers can ask each student to circle a specific letter on the overhead projector. This allows for interaction of the individual student as well as the class to see what is being taught.
Emerging visual technology: Document Camera -Teachers can put a dice on the camera, roll the dice, then ask a student what number was rolled. This will allow for the entire class to see what is rolled and also the one- to-one correspondence of each of the dots on the dice.
